Leni
Sophia's Companion
Leni is Sophia's companion in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, travelling with her to the Minotaur's island of Crete. Here's what we know about Leni's role in the story so far.
Some journeys you don't make alone.
Every Plague Tale story is, at its core, about a relationship. Innocence and Requiem were about Amicia and Hugo — a sister and her brother against the world. Resonance gives Sophia her own bond to carry: Leni, her friend and companion, who travels with her from Venice to the Minotaur’s island of Crete.
What we know
Leni has been confirmed as the character who accompanies Sophia on her journey. When Sophia, driven by her visions and chased by enemies, leaves Venice and sails for Crete, Leni goes with her. In a series that has always drawn its emotional power from the connection between two people travelling through horror together, that makes Leni far more than a background figure — she’s the human anchor to Sophia’s increasingly supernatural quest.
Asobo has kept specific details about Leni close to the chest so far. We don’t yet know the full nature of their history, exactly what Leni’s skills or role in the gameplay are, or how her arc develops across the story. What we can say is that her presence signals the series is keeping its signature two-hander dynamic — a protagonist and a companion whose bond is tested by everything the world throws at them.
Why a companion matters here
The companion relationship has always done double duty in this series: emotional and mechanical. Emotionally, it gives the protagonist someone to protect, confide in, and fight for — it’s what makes the stakes feel personal rather than abstract. Mechanically, in the previous games, the companion was woven into puzzles and traversal, opening up two-character problem-solving.
It’s reasonable to expect Leni to play a similar dual role: deepening Sophia’s story while potentially factoring into how you navigate the island. Whether that means co-op-style puzzle interactions, narrative beats that hinge on their relationship, or moments where Sophia must protect or rely on Leni, we’ll learn closer to launch.
A different kind of bond
What makes Leni interesting is the contrast she likely provides. Sophia is restless, hardened, and driven by something she can’t fully control — her visions, her connection to the ancient curse. A companion grounds that. Where the Amicia–Hugo relationship was a protector and a vulnerable child, Sophia and Leni read more like equals, friends who chose to walk into danger together. That’s a subtly different emotional register for the series, and a promising one.
As Asobo reveals more about Leni’s background and role, we’ll expand this profile. For now, know that Sophia doesn’t face the island alone — and in a Plague Tale game, the person beside you is never incidental.
