The editions

Asobo and Focus typically offer a couple of tiers for a release like this. Based on how Focus has structured previous launches, expect something like:

• Standard Edition — the base game. For most people, this is the one.
• Deluxe / Premium Edition — the base game plus digital extras: the soundtrack (Olivier Deriviere’s score is genuinely worth it), a digital art book, possibly cosmetic packs, and sometimes early access of a few days.

Here’s the thing the storefronts won’t shout about. Resonance is on Xbox Game Pass day one. If you have Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, you can play the full game at launch without buying it. It also supports Xbox Play Anywhere, so your progress carries between Xbox and PC.

For a huge number of players, this single fact makes pre-ordering pointless. Why pre-purchase a game you already have access to through a subscription you’re already paying for? Unless you specifically want the Heritage Pack cosmetics or a Deluxe-tier extra like the soundtrack and art book, Game Pass is the obvious move.

So should you pre-order?

Let’s make it simple. Pre-order if:

• You want the game permanently in your library (not just while subscribed to Game Pass).
• You specifically want the Heritage Pack or Deluxe extras.
• You want it pre-loaded and unlocking at midnight, no waiting.

Don’t bother pre-ordering if:

• You have Game Pass — you’re covered at launch.
• You’re on the fence about the game. It’s digital; it won’t sell out, and you can buy it day one or after reviews land without missing anything.
• You generally prefer to wait for impressions before committing. That’s a perfectly sensible policy and Resonance won’t punish you for it.
